Historic St Andrews clubmakers to sponsor Caithness
KRYSTLE Caithness, lying 24th on the Henderson Money List in her rookie season on the Ladies European Tour, has clinched a sponsorship deal with the world's oldest clubmakers.
Krystle Caithness: Deal
Forgan of St Andrews have signed up the 21-year-old Fifer in a two-year deal that will see Caithness join Ian Woosnam and his fellow Senior Tour player, DJ Russell, in using the company's equipment.
"Krystle is a local girl and is also one of the brightest prospects on the LET, so she will be a fantastic ambassador for Forgan, which has a proud association with the home of golf," said chief executive Simon Millington.
"We already sponsor a couple of old warhorses in Ian Woosnam and DJ Russell on the European Seniors Tour but we want to support younger players too, especially in the women's game where it's very hard for players to secure financial assistance."
The Forgan brand was created in St Andrews in 1860 and celebrated its 150th anniversary along with the Open Championship this year.
Caithness also has a strong connection with the town. She's a member of St Regulus Golf Club, followed in the footsteps of both Annika Sorenstam and Catriona Matthew by winning the St Rule Trophy and also played in the Curtis Cup on the Old Course.
"I'm delighted to be joining forces with Forgan," she said.
"Living just ten miles from the town (in Cupar] and being a lifelong member of St Regulus Golf Club, you could say St Andrews is in my blood.
"So it's great to be associated with a golf club maker whose history is entrenched in the town." Caithness, who has recorded four top-10 finishes on the LET this year, will be hoping her new clubs can help her produce another strong showing in the UNIQA Ladies Open, which gets underway today in Austria.
Kylie Walker, who recorded her first top-10 finish last weekend, Carly Booth, Clare Queen, Pamela Feggans and Lynn Kenny are also in the field at Golf Club Foehrenwald in Wiener Neustadt, but Vikki Laing, lying ninth on the money-list after finishing second in Finland last Sunday, is absent due to a friend's wedding this weekend.
