Hills hangs up his boots for last time with Watsonians
WATSONIANS back-row Guy Hills has announced his retirement from rugby with immediate effect.
The 32-year-old has suffered a number of injuries over the years due to his all-action style, but it is a neck and arm injury sustained in the win over Edinburgh Accies last month at Raeburn Place that has finally made him decide to call it a day.
Hills, a PE teacher at Beath High School in Cowdenbeath, joined the club after leaving George Watson's College in 1994 and, following a lengthy spell in New Zealand, returned to be vice-skipper to Alan Nash as the club lifted the Scottish Cup in 2006.
He said: "I feel like I have played forever and it is going to be hard not going down to the club all the time. I will miss being part of the team and throwing myself into it for the boys. Obviously I was away playing for a long time, but Watsonians is a great club with lots of history and I have been lucky to play with some great guys."
Watsonians captain Torrie Callander added: "My personal thanks and appreciation must go to Guy. His desire, heart, and – most of all – his pride in his club will be irreplaceable."
