HOCKEY: Millburn Academy has three pupils in the Scottish Under-16 squad – Humzah Khan, Hamish Townshead and Charlie Fuller.
And the perfect top-up for a Highland Region that has now set up a performance squad is the inclusion of Inverness Royal Academy’s Georgia Palmer in the Scottish Inder-18 training squad.
Miles Fuller, an Inverness Active Schools Co-ordinator, is Charlie’s father and he has used past experience to help develop hockey in the area.
“My older son, Hamish, was in the Scottish under-16 and under-18 training squads when he was at school,” he said. “But he was the only one from Highland and it was tough for him travelling to the monthly training sessions in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
“Also, the school players down south all benefit from extra strength and conditioning sessions. But the three Millburn boys all travel together this season and it has been the making of them. Scottish Hockey has also agreed to pay for a strength and conditioning coach and we have appointed Jed McKernie.
“There are now 12 players in the Highland Performance Squad. It’s so good to see hockey expanding in the region.”
