Higgins and White to play in Glenrothes
SOME of the greatest names in snooker, including Jimmy White and Alex Higgins, will be in Fife next week to compete in an all-star exhibition tournament.
White and Higgins will be joined in the eight-man line-up by Stephen Hendry, John Parrott, Cliff Thorburn, Ken Doherty, Tony Knowles and Tony Tornado Drago for the two-day event at the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, starting tomorrow week.
Higgins won the world championship twice, in 1972 and 1982, while White famously appeared in six Crucible finals without ever winning the title. Parrott (1991), Thorburn (1980) and Doherty (1997) are also former world champions, while "Tornado" Drago is also a professional pool player and Knowles is a former world No2.
Hendry, a seven-times winner in Sheffield, said: "It will be great to see Alex Higgins back in action in Scotland and I'm sure there will be plenty of people wanting to see him. Cliff Thorburn will be playing Alex in a re-match of the 1980 world championship final. That match has top billing tomorrow week."
Day tickets for the first round and the semi-finals and final on Sunday week are available at from Rothes Halls.
