Heriot's 40 - 14 Boroughmuir: Heriot's find form to pull clear of relegation zone
HERIOT'S put in a superb performance against Boroughmuir on Saturday to get themselves up to seventh in the Scottish Hydro Premier One table and ten points clear of the relegation zone.
Just nine days ago the Goldenacre side sat joint second bottom of the table and were without a win in five matches in all competitions. However, after bonus point victories over Watsonians and Boroughmuir they have left their Edinburgh rivals in real trouble at the bottom and given their own survival chances a massive boost.
Key to this comfortable 40-14 win were former Scotland sevens man Mark Lee and prop Alan Dymock who showed exactly why he is in the Scotland Club International squad.
Heriot's head coach Bob McKillop said: "I thought in the first 25 minutes we played some of the best rugby that we have all season and to be 19-0 up early on gave us a great cushion.
"The guys are playing with a bit of confidence now and long may it continue, while Mark Lee is a ball of enthusiasm who has helped the side no end in the last few weeks."
It is certainly no coincidence that Lee's return to Edinburgh has coincided with Heriot's upturn in form and on Saturday the No8 scored the first try after nine minutes. Winger Colin Goudie and in-form hooker Dylan Mason also went over in the first quarter.
After the break three more tries were added in this surprisingly one-sided encounter, the pick of them from stand-off Richard Mill.
Boroughmuir's plight was not helped when they lost player/coach Fergus Pringle to a suspected broken arm early on, but now just five points clear of the drop zone they will have to regroup fast ahead of Friday night's showdown with Watsonians.
