Hearts: We must build on win, urges Laszlo

HEARTS boss Csaba Laszlo insisted today that his side must prove that they are not a one-hit wonder by building on their Co-operative Insurance Cup victory over Celtic.

Laszlo wants his side to use the win at Parkhead as a tool to boost confidence levels – and also a springboard from which to relaunch their league campaign.

The Tynecastle outfit sit in ninth position in the league table but Laszlo believes his side will be on a high after knocking the holders out of the cup on Wednesday night.

He wants them to prove to their supporters and critics alike that they can produce performances of a consistently high level throughout the course of the rest of the season, in both the league and cup competitions.

He said: "I don't think that we have had so many bad performances this season but the luck was just not there.

"To win at Celtic Park was fantastic but I have told the players that we have achieved only one victory.

"Yes, it is a good win, a very good win, but now we must take confidence and build on this.

"A good team can win individual games or rise to one-off special occasions but a top team is one that can keep a high level of consistency. The players understand what is required of them and with continued concentrations and hard work they can show the true ability that they possess.

"Football is about the head as much as it is the feet."

Meanwhile, Laszlo is hopeful Andrew Driver will be fit for tomorrow's trip to Motherwell after the winger took a heavy knock at Celtic Park. Driver was scythed down by Stephen McManus as time ticked away on Wednesday, the Celtic defender eventually being shown a red card by referee Craig Thomson. However, Laszlo does not expect too many problems for his player, adding: "I think Andy will be okay. He worked with the physios and the doctors after the match and we will see what happens but I hope he will be fit for the game against Motherwell."

Fears also emerged today that midfielder Suso, who missed the Celtic win, is facing hernia surgery. The Spaniard, though, is believed to be in the frame for tomorrow's match.
