Jim Salter, Clermiston: "A dreadful performance from Hearts. There was a lot of optimism ahead of this game on the back of a really good performance and a fantastic result against Celtic on Wednesday but that proved to be a false dawn for us.

"I don't think that we started the game very well but both sides looked pretty poor and it was a very scrappy match. Motherwell probably had the better of the opportunities and it didn't really surprise me when we fell behind. It was a really slack piece of defending by Craig Thomson and Balogh should have done better."

"However, what was disappointing was that there wasn't really much of a response from the players to going behind and there was no urgency in the team until Eggert Jonsson got himself sent off. After that, we got the sleeves rolled up and got stuck in a bit and, maybe, we could have got an equaliser. I don't think that we deserved to take anything from the game. We need to take a long, hard look at ourselves. Obviously, we've got Hibs next week and we will need to step up the performance levels if we are going to take anything out of that match."

Danny Hubbard, Peebles: "Another bad day at the office for Hearts. We looked desperately short of imagination and ideas. Both Andy Driver and David Obua are low on confidence and are really struggling and that meant Christian Nade was really starved of service until he went off with the injury. that Csaba really needs to think about a change in tactics before the game next week because we need to try to get into games more and I think that we need support for the strikers. If Nade is fit, I would definitely like to see him alongside Glen next Saturday because Glen made a difference when he came on.

"I'd also play Novikovas who did well and if fit, Suso. There are too many players who aren't facing any competition for places and there is just not enough hunger and desire in the team from week to week.

"Also, I think Michael Stewart's critics will have seen just how much he does this weekend because we were second to every ball in the midfield without him."

Robert Griffin, Danderhall: "That was an abysmal display. We have absolutely nothing in the final third of the pitch and we are continuing to leak soft goals. We just never got into the game.

"Motherwell passed up some good chances and I was glad that we got in 0-0 at half time as I felt that it would give us a good opportunity to regroup but nothing changed and we came out looking every bit as disorganised and lax in the second half. Losing the goal when we did was a big blow to our confidence and we never really looked like recovering.

"The sending off, too, was really disappointing because our discipline has been good this season but now we'll need to do without Jonsson against Hibs. They will come to Tynecastle next week bursting with confidence and, hopefully, we can upset them. We will need to play much, much better though."
