Hastie aiming to silence his 'mouthy' foe
UNBEATEN Gilmerton featherweight Jason Hastie has vowed to make "Rockin" Robin Deakin eat his words.
Hastie faces the Englishman at Paisley's Lagoon Centre on Friday, still raging over insulting post-fight remarks made by Deakin following their fight in March 2008 when Hastie outpointed the Essex man over four rounds in Glasgow.
Hastie, who fights on a bill which marks Glasgow fighter Willie Limond's debut as a promoter, said: "I beat Deakin comprehensively on points when we clashed last year but he mouthed off at me after the fight about my boxing abilities. So this time around I'm going to give him no room to dispute the verdict.
"I've had terrific sparring with (former WBO featherweight champion] Scott Harrison and Willie Limond and I've never been sharper."
Meanwhile, Gary McMillan will also fight a four-round warm-up bout on Friday's Paisley undercard as preparation for his March 27 ten-round Scottish welterweight title bid at Glasgow's Bellahouston Leisure Centre.
An opponent is yet to be identified for the Lochend-based southpaw for Friday's scrap, but he said: "I've just completed 60 hard sparring rounds with (former WBO champion] Alex Arthur, at the Lochend gym so I'm fired up."
• LEITH VICTORIA have unveiled the programme to celebrate their 90th birthday later this year. Events will commence on June 5 with a boxing dinner show at the Edinburgh Masonic club. This will be followed the next day by an open day at the Academy Street gym, then, on June 7, the club will stage a youth and novices show at Leith Dockers club.
Club official Douglas Fraser said: "We've had loads of responses from former club boxers of all eras in Leith Victoria's recent history, but we are still hoping for other ex-Leith Vics people to contact us."
