Hamilton Accies 2 - 0 Alloa Athletic: Nigel Hasselbaink back with a goal to ease Hamilton through
Nigel Hasselbaink is determined to be Hamilton's goal-getter and drag them out of the relegation zone after he set the ball rolling in this Scottish Cup win against Alloa.
The striker was back in action following an absence of six weeks with a knee injury and marked his return with the opener in the fourth-round tie.
Simon Mensing then missed from the penalty spot late on, before Flavio Paixao sealed the win in injury-time against the Irn-Bru Second Division outfit. Goals have been hard to come by recently for Hamilton, who found the net just once in seven matches before Saturday's cup tie.
But Hasselbaink believes he can change their fortunes in front of goal. "I hope I can be the one to get the goals now," he said. "Every striker needs a goal and we will see. I want to get a lot of goals. It was great to get the goal after being out for quite a few weeks. We hadn't won a home game this season and we needed the win. It was very important to end that record."
Alloa goalkeeper Stephen Robertson was sent off with a minute to go after conceding a penalty, meaning a surprise cameo in goal for striker David Gormley, who had started the game on the bench. But he saved brilliantly from Mensing's spot-kick only to concede against Paixao moments later.
