Gymnastics opportunity for kids in Kelso

WORLD-class gymnasts who excel in disciplines from skipping ropes to street dance are coming to the Borders this weekend, and organisers are welcoming Scottish youngsters to join free workshops and learn from the masters.

Currently on a major tour, the National Danish Gymnastics Performance Team will stage a public display at Springwood Hall in Kelso on Saturday (3pm). However, one of the organisers, David Laing, said there is a great opportunity for young Scottish gymnasts not only to watch the performances, but also receive some expert tuition from the Danish team on Sunday.

"It is a wonderful coup to bring such a leading team to the area for an event like this," he said, "but we are trying to really maximise the benefits of it. At the moment we have a good number of youngsters and coaches coming from across the south of Scotland and further afield, but there are still places available."

As well as work on traditional mats and trampoline, the 90-minute performance on Saturday (tickets cost 4 to 8) will consist of various routines in changing genres.
