Gridiron: Wolves aiming to pull plug on TV star as Titans await

THE Edinburgh Wolves gridiron football team will attempt to create some fireworks when they host Manchester tomorrow at Meadowbank stadium.

As well as the main game between the Wolves and Titans, who will field Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle (Calvin Valentine), the Fourth of July event features a bonus game between the Wolves youth side and the Clyde Valley Falcons and a half-time hot dog eating contest.

The main focus of the day for the Wolves will be returning to winning ways after a 13-7 defeat to Glasgow two weeks ago. Coach Don Edmonston said: "That was hard to take but we know we can play so much better. It just makes the coaches push the players harder."

The Titans shut out the Wolves 27-0 in their season opener in May but Edmonston said: "We were caught flat-footed but we feel we can be more productive this time on offence. Our defence stopped them from scoring in the whole of the second half so we need to start better."

The main game kicks off at 2.30pm, with the youth game beginning at 11.30am. Admission is 5 and children go free if accompanied by an adult.
