Golf: Ramsay slips off the pace

RICHIE Ramsay lost ground on the leaders during the second round of the South African Open at the Pearl Valley estate in Paarl.

The 25-year-old from Aberdeen, who was sitting third after an opening 66, added a level-par 72 and slipped down to a share of 22nd with a six-under aggregate of 138, six shots behind halfway leader, Michael Lorenzo-Vera. The Frenchman surged to the front with a 65 for 132 and a two-stroke lead over Damien McGrane, Charl Schwartzel, Lee Westwood and former Open champion Ernie Els.

Tulliallan rookie Callum Macaulay continued his solid start to life on the European Tour and made the cut for the second event in a row. The 25-year-old carded a tidy three-under 69 and moved up to a share of 30th place.
