Golf: Oldcorn flies Lothian flag as Ramsay leads

ANDREW OLDCORN was the only Lothians player to make the cut in at the Celtic Manor Wales Open.

The Kings Acre professional produced one of his best rounds of the year with a 68 to qualify right on the mark, two-over.

Andrew Coltart just missed on 145, with Stephen Gallacher and David Drysdale both on 146.

Aberdeen's Richie Ramsay held the lead going into today's thrid round, one ahead of England's Ross Fisher and Robert Rock.

After becoming the first Scot in 108 years to win the US Amateur title three years ago, Ramsay partnered Phil Mickelson at The Masters, Tiger Woods at the US Open and Padraig Harrington in The Open.

The 25-year-old missed the cut in all three, but learned some valuable lessons.

"They've all got great talent, but they can grind out a score when they are not playing so well," he said.

"Sometimes I can be a bit hard on myself, but I've learnt to take the positives of each round more now."

World No.23 Fisher is the highest-ranked player in the field and is hoping to catch the eye of Ryder Cup skipper Colin Montgomerie.

Fisher said: "This is a great opportunity – a chance to cash in big time.

"If I can win or come second or third that should boost me up the Order of Merit, but I'll be definitely going for the title."

&#149 IN AUSTRIA, Lloyd and Elliot Saltman both failed to make the cut on 144 and 146 respectively at the EuroPro Tour's Karnten Open.
