Golf: Kerr closes in on first victory in the professional ranks
MARK KERR set out today feeling confident that he could notch a first win in the pro ranks, having maintained his challenge after the second round of The Stoke by Nayland Championship on the PGA EuroPro Tour.
The Marriott Dalmahoy golfer carded a second successive 68 over the Suffolk course to lie joint second, just one off the lead, going into the final 18 holes. "I'm looking forward to and it's a case of keep doing the same things as I'm playing pretty well," said Kerr.
Having started his second round at the tenth, the former Dispatch Trophy winner dropped a shot at the 12th before bouncing back with three straight birdies.
He then picked up further shots at the second, fourth and fifth to earn a share of the lead only for a poor pitch to cost him a bogey at the sixth.
"It would be unbelievable if I got my first win as a pro this week but even a top three would be a significant step in the right direction as my best finish on the EuroPro Tour so far is 20th," he added.
Elliot Saltman and John Gallagher were both on two-under – seven off the lead – with Lee Harper (one-under) the only other Lothians player to make the cut.
