Golf: Ian Young's favourites

IAN YOUNG, the head pro at the Braid Hills Golf Centre, reveals a selection of his favourite things in golf

Winning My best result was at the 1984 Scottish PGA Championship at Dalmahoy, where I beat Andrew Oldcorn into second place.

Match play I love this format of golf and won the Scottish Match Play Championship at North Berwick in 1991.

Practise My favourite pastime is hitting golf balls at the Braid Hills Golf Centre.

Camaraderie I really enjoy working with a bunch of wonderful guys up at the BHGC.

Feelgood factor It's a good feeling when you see kids that you have coached develop into nice young adults.

Satisfaction It's great teaching this great game to so many different people of all levels and backgrounds – there's never a boring day!

Influences My first influence in golf was Jimmy Murray, the pro at Baberton when I was a boy.

Swings The smoothest swing I've ever seen was ex-Bruntsfield and Braids pro Finlay Morrison – at the age of 93!

Memories The first place I hit a golf ball was at Lothianburn and I still like the hilly courses we have in Edinburgh.
