Golf: East and Fife share top spot
EAST and Fife were the two winners in the latest round of matches in the Lothians and Fife Golf Associations Winter League, writes MARTIN DEMPSTER.
For the second match running, Stephen Neilson was East's hero, the Dunbar player beating Sean McGarvey in the final match at Newbattle to give his side a 6-4 win over Mid.
Mark Hillson, who beat Allyn Dick at the top of the order, Myles Cunningham, Graham Davidson, Dean Muir and Grant Forrest provided the other points for the visitors in that one.
East are now level on points with Fife, who held on for a 5 1/2-4 1/2 win over West at Charleton. The home side won the top four matches before West hit back through Stuart Boyle, Jordyn Rhind, Tom Blennerhasset and Mark Timmins.
However, Gary Page delivered the decisive point for Fife over young Louis Gaughan.
