WITH The Open at Muirfield now over Scottish golf fans can now look forward to the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in 2014, and some of sport’s big names have spoken of their excitement ahead of the tournament.
Former Scotland rugby captain Gavin Hastings believes that the country’s golf fans “are in for an absolute treat”, while Alan Hansen is hoping for the run of exciting tournaments to continue.
European Championship winner and former Chelsea boss Ruud Gullit said that Scotland’s golf courses were some of the best in the world, in spite of the “horrible” Scottish weather.
Former England midfielder and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp summed up the special atmosphere around the tournament. He said: “In a day and age where players get paid vast amounts of money to play and win... the players don’t get paid for this, they just want to win it for Europe or for the USA.”
