McLeary rues ’bad breaks’ in Kenya

CHALLENGE TOUR: Jamie McLeary finished tied 14th in the Barclays Kenya Open after carding a level-par 71 in the final round at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi. The Edinburgh man closed with a 71 to finish on three-under, seven shots behind the winner, England’s Seve Benson.

McLeary finished tied eighth in his first event of the season, the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic last month, and is pleased with his early-season form.

“I played well,” said the former Scottish Hydro Challenge winner. “I just missed a wee bit of luck here and there. I’m not getting the decent breaks at the moment, but I think it’s going to happen soon.

“This is easily the best start I’ve had to a year so I’m going to go home, work hard with my coach over the next month and hopefully get into Madeira [Madeira Islands Open]. This bodes well for the season.”

The other Scot to make the cut in Kenya, Scott Henry, finished on a high, carding a four under par 67 to take a share of 46th place at two over par.
