Hill set to take on university challenge

GOLF: Merchiston Castle School’s Calum Hill will make history at Trevose Country Club next month when he becomes the first Scot to compete for the Independent Schools’ Golf Association in the Exeter Invitational Links Trophy.

The 17-year-old, who is coached by Kings Acre’s Alan Murdoch, is joined in the team by Jack Singh Barr (Hampshire College) and Jack Sallis (Wellington College).

The schoolboys will be up against ten universities – including Stirling and St Andrews – in the 54-hole event from 2-4 March.

“It is a great honour in schools golf to be selected to represent the ISGA,” said Calum. “I can’t wait to get the chance to take on the best golfers at University level within the UK.”

In his final year at Merchiston, Calum, who plays off plus one and has been named as first reserve for the Scottish Under-18 team for the European Quadrangular, has already accepted a place on a golf scholarship at the University of Louisiana.
