Golf: Turnhouse star Gallagher joins PGA and will play in Tartan Tour events next season

FORMER Scottish Amateur champion John Gallagher is set to play on the Tartan Tour next season after joining the PGA.

He has become a TP3 member of The Belfry-based organisation and will combine playing on the Scottish circuit with his PGA EuroPro Tour schedule.

“The TP3 membership will allow me to play in some of the Tartan Tour competitions,” said Gallagher. “This will help me build as much golf as possible into my schedule for 2013 and play some great Scottish golf courses along the way.

“I may also have the opportunity to play in some pro-ams, which is always fun.”

Gallagher, attached to Turnhouse for the second half of the 2012 campaign had been hoping to be involved in this week’s EuroPro Tour Championship, a 54-hole event at Woburn, but he agonisingly missed out on the 60th and final spot by just 2p over the course of the season. “I’ve have had a tough season. Missing out by 2p was the final kick in the teeth, and 2013 can’t come quick enough,” he admitted. “Playing in Scotland might make things a little easier, although I know the standard is still very high. I will have to qualify for most of the tournaments but playing more golf will no doubt help.”

Meanwhile, Duddingston and Liberton shared the spoils in an early clash in this season’s South East Edinburgh Winter League. In a close encounter, the visitors secured a valuable away point to set the pace after the opening two rounds.

Liberton won the junior match between the same two teams to also lead that after two matches.

Prestonfield did the double over Craigmillar Park in the other latest fixture, winning the men’s match 3-1 and recording a 3-0 whitewash in the junior clash.
