NORTH BERWICK’S Catriona Matthew opened her defence of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational title with a one-under-par 71 in Mexico, writes MARTIN DEMPSTER.
It earned her a share of 16th spot at the end of the opening round in Guadalajara, five shots behind co-leaders Michelle Wie, Angela Stanford and Candie Kung.
Meanwhile, Dunbar’s Neil Fenwick re-ignited his challenge at the European Tour Qualifying School at El Valle in Spain with a fine second round 68to tie for 43rd at the halfway stage.
He signed for six birdies to at least give himself a chance of progressing to the final stage at Girona at the end of the month.
Lloyd Saltman was tied for 48th at El Saler while brother Elliot was 73rd at Lumine Golf.
