Scotland’s Martin Laird feels right back at home as he looks to make an impression at this week’s Open Championship.

The Glaswegian is a member of the US PGA Tour but quickly readjusted to links golf to finish fifth in last week’s Scottish Open at Castle Stuart, Inverness.

The 30-year-old is a 100-1 outsider at Muirfield but believes he is ready for the challenges the East Lothian course will present when the tournament begins tomorrow.

Laird said: “I played well last week and feel like my game is in good shape. I don’t feel like I have come here and have to work on my short game, hit off the firm lies, or (practise) bump and runs – I did it all last week.

“It is more a case of learning the course and getting ready for Thursday. I feel ready to go.

“I like it so much here it doesn’t take me long. Visually, there is nothing better than looking at a nice browned-up links course. It looks fantastic.”
