TWO of Scottish golf’s four different winners on the European Tour in the past five months have had an apt connection in their part in the renaissance.

Richie Ramsay, who won the European Masters last September, and Stephen Gallacher, the newly-crowned Dubai Desert Classic champion, are both attached to The Renaissance Club in East Lothian.

They have used its renowned practice facilities to hone their games and also benefitted from playing a championship course that was in the frame for the Scottish Open when its run came to an end at Loch Lomond.

Ramsay is officially attached to the club, which opened in 2008, while Gallacher’s bag bore its logo as he joined his fellow Scot in becoming a two-time European Tour winner last weekend.

“We are obviously extremely pleased with the success of both Stephen and Richie over the past few months,” said Jerry Sarvadi, the club’s managing director and joint owner. “Both players have used our practice range and our other facilities during the past six or seven months since they joined the club as members.

“Our range is unique for Scotland in that it is surrounded by trees, so even if it is windy you can still practise without getting beat up. I would like to think that using the club’s other facilities has also aided to their daily preparation for the demanding Tour schedule. And, to further complement the practice and fitness routines for both Stephen, Richie and potentially other European Tour players, our new clubhouse with a full gym will be finished in a few months.”

By coincidence, Ramsay and Gallacher now sit 59th and 60th respectively in the latest world rankings and are both on course to be in the field for the Accenture WGC Match-Play in Arizona in a fortnight’s time. “These are really exciting times for The Renaissance Club and we believe there are better things to come from both Stephen and Richie in the near future,” added Sarvadi.
