LOTHIANBURN duo Janet Begrie and Catherine Stewart won the Gibson Cup, the annual ladies’ foursomes tournament staged at the Braids, writes MARTIN DEMPSTER.
The pair, pictured right, recorded their first success in the 105-year-old event, but Lothianburn are making a habit of producing the winners.
After securing an early lead in the title showdown, Begrie and Stewart went on to record a 4 and 3 victory over Harburn pair Fiona Smith and Anne Stokes.
In the second-flight final of matchplay, another Harburn pairing, Dorothy Wilson and Linda Boyle, also finished as runners-up after losing that final to Mary Stark (Lothianburn) and Anne Brownie (Gullane Ladies) at the 17th hole.
The Consolation Salver stableford was won by Prestonfield’s Barbara McQuillan and Liz Moody with 32 points. Second were Murrayfield’s Denise Mitchell and Rosie Dennis, who pipped Karina Matson and Gillian Lithgow (Lothianburn).
