Dougray Scott's Dunhill blog - day four

I hit some bad shots today – and my excuse is the wind.

Today was probably one of the most brutal days of golf I have ever played in my life. I think we didn't do enough to make the cut for tomorrow, finishing at 7 under.

When I birdied the first hole (the 10th) I thought it was going to be a good day, but it just didn't go as planned.

It was just so windy and so cold, that it made playing well almost impossible. That said, I had some bad luck where things could have gone a different way.

On the 13th I hit the pin and the ball bounced and hit the cup, and then rolled off the green. My putt for a par, which could have been a hole in one, hit something just as it was about to go in the hole.

And then on the 1st on my second shot, with a sandwedger, I hit the pin again and the ball ended up 20 feet away. I've just never seen that happen before.

The gusts of wind just kept coming, throwing my body and arms all over the place which made it really difficult to get into a proper rhythm.

The cold makes your body feel so stiff and you're wearing so many layers that it makes it really difficult to swing.

As a Scot who grew up not far from where I played today, I was kind of used to weather like we had today, but I think it was a shock to some of the others, particularly the American actor Luke Owen who was in my group.

This was his first time playing in Scotland, so I think it was quite a surprise to him and he found it pretty tough.

My partner Andrew Coltart missed some putts which he would have got any other day, but with the bad weather things just didn't go to plan.

So it looks like this was my final day. I don't know how some of the other players who have done better today have managed to get the scores they have in these conditions.

It's been another great experience for me at the Dunhill though – very exciting and highly enjoyable. I knew the format better this year having played it last year.

I'm now looking forward to relaxing a bit tomorrow and watching the final day's play. Tonight I'm attending a players' dinner which will be a lot of fun. On Monday morning I fly to Dublin to start shooting a new film in which I play a gangster, which will feel like a world away from here.
