BROOMIEKNOWE bridged a 36-year gap to win the Edinburgh Ladies Inter-Club tournament at Prestonfield, writes
MARTIN DEMPSTER.

Worthy champions after comfortable wins in all four of their matches, it was the Bonnyrigg club’s first triumph in the event since 1977.

The winning quartet on that occasion was Dorothy Anderson, Carol Halliday, Betty Redwood and Gillian Kirkwood. Dorothy’s daughter, Katherine, helped end the drought as she joined forces in the ‘Class of 2013’ with Kate McIntosh, Hannah Scott and Wendy Nicholson

In Saturday’s semi-finals, Broomieknowe beat Craigmillar Park 7 and 6 while Baberton booked their final spot with a 5 and 3 victory over Turnhouse.

The title showdown saw Nicholson and Scott finish two up against Baberton’s front couple of Karen
Marshall and Fiona de Vries.

And, at the back, Anderson and McIntosh won six up against Katherine Logan and Kate Johnson.
