BABERTON were the big winners in the first round of the Edinburgh Ladies’ Inter-Club tournament at Prestonfield.
The Juniper Green club thumped near neighbours Ratho Park 11 and 10 to set up a last-eight clash today with Liberton.
In contrast, Liberton had to dig deep for their opening victory, winning by one hole over the double foursome against Dalmahoy.
The host club are also through to the quarter-finals after beating Royal Musselburgh 7 and 6.
They now meet Turnhouse, who were equally impressive in accounting for Newbattle by 6 and 5.
In the bottom half of the draw, Craigmillar Park, Musselburgh, Broomieknowe and Glencorse were the four teams to progress.
Craigmillar Park squeezed through by one hole against Merchants and now take on Musselburgh, who won 3 and 2 against Kingsknowe.
Broomieknowe beat Murrayfield 8 and 7 to set up a clash with Glencorse after they beat Lothianburn 7 and 5.
