Those involved in the healthcare industry in Scotland will finally have their own Scottish chapter when Health 2.0 commences operations in Edinburgh on December 3.

Though exact details of the inaugural event are being kept tightly under wraps, the sixty attendees at Bioquarter Nine on the University of Edinburgh campus will experience a two-hour lecture with guest speakers and demonstrations from those in the industry.

Health 2.0, an international organisation dedicated to the creation and demonstration of new health technologies will commence operations on December 3. Members of the organisation hold conferences, conduct market research and host developer competitions to create international solutions to some of the world’s biggest healthcare issues.

Chapter Leader Diwakar Thakore said: “The chapter was founded in February to serve the healthcare innovation and technology ecosystem of Scotland.

“It has been bit of an uphill struggle enthusing the community here but we currently have 121 members and growing.

“We need to build a community here in Scotland that becomes a bridge between healthcare innovators, society, patient groups, doctors and nurses to help build a truly world class health innovation cluster, keeping the tradition of being a great medical research city.”

The pair are also co-founders of the Musemantik programme, which has developed Soulight - a app-based mindfulness and wellbeing mood-changer that uses colours and music to assess and postively influence the user’s mood.

In addition, the Soulight app aims to allieviate depression by providing the user with specifically-tailored music playlists, with Zurawski and Thakore’s healthcare experience just one of the innovations that Health 2.0 allows professionals to share.

As a non-profit organisation, Health 2.0’s Edinburgh chapter will help NHS and private sector healthcare staff to entrepreneurs, investors and policy makers through face-to-face meetings and online discussions using the @Health2Edinburg handle and the #Health2Edinburg hashtag.

Sponsors for the event include industry professionals Datalab and Edinburgh Health Informatics.
