Golf: Four rounds in one day!

FOUR Edinburgh golfers have raised more than £2,000 for charity after completing a 17-hour marathon on four courses in the Capital.

The intrepid quartet of Tim Poyser, Simon Mills, Alan Henderson and Chris Hughes played at Lothianburn, Duddingston, Royal Burgess and Turnhouse on the same day, having come up with a name of their own for "The Longest Day Golf Challenge" in aid of MacMillan Cancer Care.

"We re-named our event 'A Great Walk Not Spoiled'," said Poyser in a reference to a twist on the title of one of the top-selling golf books.

The quartet teed off at Lothianburn, where they were all members until last December – Hughes is the only one still there – at just after 5.00am and holed the final putt to a round of applause from a watching gallery at Turnhouse soon after 10.20pm.

"We feel it is a great achievement and we were all really chuffed with ourselves," said Poyser, now a Turnhouse member along with Mills and Henderson.

"It was a great feeling walking down the 72nd fairway with my buddies, we were all in great spirits and laughing and joking.

"We have raised over 2,000 to date with money still coming in and would like to thank the people at all four of the clubs who gave us the courtesy of their courses and helped in other ways."
