Glasgow anxious for news over Low’s ankle
GLASGOW were last night still awaiting news of a scan to determine the extent of the injury suffered by Moray Low in Saturday’s final Magners League match.
The 23-year-old prop, named last week as one of three uncapped players for Scotland’s tour to Argentina, was stretchered off in the first half of Glasgow’s impressive victory over Munster in Cork. Initially, it was feared that Low had suffered a broken ankle, but that appears to have alleviated somewhat.
Low’s ankle remained swollen yesterday, but he did have scan to ascertain whether there was damage to ligaments. If it turns out to be a minor strain, Low still has a chance of making what he admitted last week would be a dream trip to South America, but if he has suffered ankle ligament tears the chances of recovering in time to feature in either of the Test matches, on 7 and 14 June, would become slim.
A Glasgow spokesperson said: “It does not appear to be as bad as was first thought, but until we have the full results back we cannot say anything firm. We hope to have a clearer picture of the extent of the injury in the morning [today].”
• England captain Phil Vickery is winning his race to be fit in time for the two-Test summer tour to New Zealand.
Vickery was not expected to be fully fit until 2 June – the day England fly to Auckland – after suffering knee ligament damage, but the Wasps forward is now understood to be ahead of schedule.
