Gisin pips Vonn to Super-G title in her home country
SKIING: Switzerland's Dominique Gisin was a surprise winner of the Crans Montana Super-G in the final event before next week's World Cup finals at Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
With the crystal globe for the discipline having already been won by overall World Cup leader Lindsey Vonn, there was little to race for at the Swiss resort. But 24-year-old Gisin produced a run of one minute 24.14 seconds to claim her first World Cup win of the season and only the third of her career. She held off Vonn by 0.15secs with American Julia Mancuso completing the podium.
In Kvitfjell, Norway, Erik Guay of Canada ended three years of near misses to capture his second career World Cup victory with a narrow win in the Super-G event.
