Gibson helps GB to world bronze

CANOEING: Eilidh Gibson (Strathallan) has had an outstanding summer of competitions in both the USA and Europe.

The 16-year-old underlined her huge potential by helping GB win a team bronze medal at the Under-23 World Championships in Wausau, Wisconsin. She was 11th in the individual event.

At last month’s Under-23 European Championships at Solkan, Slovenia, Eilidh again helped the side win a team bronze medal and was a very creditable seventh in the individual event.

Eilidh is the Scottish Champion in C1 Kayaking and is a lone Scot in the women’s Under-18 C1 Great Britain Squad.

The C1 class involves the paddler kneeling in the canoe and using a single–ended paddle, the same discipline as Scottish Olympian David Florence.
