Funding boost for Arran's Shiskine course
ONE of Scotland's most beautiful golf courses, Shiskine on Arran, is to receive lottery funding worth £130,000 in order to build a new clubhouse which will provide improved facilities for junior members and encourage a new generation of island golfers.
The Shiskine golf and tennis club, situated on the west coast of the island with stunning views of the Mull of Kintyre, is a 12-hole facility which measures just under 3,000 yards off the white tees. This hidden gem is regularly ranked among Britain's top 100 courses.
Very much a community club as well as a haven for visitors, the current clubhouse, is not able to provide the facilities required to encourage increased participation from youngsters.
Louise Martin, chair of sportscotland said: "We believe that providing communities with quality, accessible facilities is essential in developing grassroots sport in Scotland. We are delighted to provide this lottery investment of 130,000 to Shiskine to build a new clubhouse for this community club. Already an important facility for the island, the planned improvements will allow the club to continue to grow ."
Gordon Stewart of Shiskine added: "We are absolutely delighted with this award. Our club was founded in 1896 and over the years the facilities have gradually fallen well short of what is required to meet present and future demands."
