French PM sorry for player's lie
FRANCE centre Mathieu Bastareaud's lie to police in Wellington that he was the victim of an assault has now reached government level. French PM Francois Fillon has written a letter of apology to his New Zealand counterpart.
The Stade Francais player made up a tale that he was attacked following France's 14-10 defeat by the All Blacks, and Fillon told John Key: "France's tour of New Zealand has been marked by the unacceptable behaviour of one of its players. His false statements (have] seriously tainted the image of your country and its people."
