Fraser Mann secures Senior Tour card
FRASER Mann can look forward to battles with former Ryder Cup skippers Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam on the European Senior Tour next year after earning his card at the qualifying school final in Portugal.
The 2002 Scottish PGA champion closed with a four-under 67 at the Vale da Pinta resort for an eight-under 276 and shared fifth, six strokes behind No1 qualifier John Harrison of England.
Musselburgh pro Mann went into the final day just a shot outside a top-six spot needed to gain full playing rights for the over-50s circuit in 2010. And he lifted himself into the qualifying zone with a bogey-free round which was boosted by four birdies in five holes from the eighth. He said: "I've really been looking forward to coming on the Senior Tour for the last couple of years now and I should be able to play in most of the events. I played some super golf today and it was my putting that got me into the top six."
Sweden-based Scot Terry Burgoyne signed off with a 69 for a 281 and shared 12th place to claim one of 14 conditional cards for the tour. But Dundee's Steve Martin and former Northern Open champion Peter Smith failed to make the grade after finishing on 286s.
