Football: Winless Kilmarnock need 'a wee break' insists boss

KILMARNOCK manager Jim Jefferies maintained they just need a "wee break" after a goalless draw with Motherwell extended their run without a Clydesdale Bank Premier League to more than three months.

Hosts Killie dominated possession and territory in the first half but failed to trouble 'Well keeper Graeme Smith.

Kevin Kyle headed a good chance wide and Smith saved well from Manuel Pascali's header in an even second half but Motherwell could have snatched victory in injury-time when David Clarkson volleyed over from 12 yards.

Falkirk's 4-0 victory over Inverness leaves Killie just three points off the bottom but Jefferies is convinced relegation will not be an issue if his team perform as they did.

He explained: "If you're building up play and putting balls in the box – okay one or two in the first half could have been a wee bit better – then sometimes you need a wee break.

"If you look at what Motherwell did at the end, they put a couple of balls in the box and it fell for them to get shots, which they put over the bar.

"That never happened for us, it always fell for them. And that's what it's been like for us.

"I couldn't fault the players' effort, we tried to get it down. As long as we keep playing like that, we'll get enough points to make sure we're okay."

David Fernandez shares his manager's belief that all they need is some luck to secure their first SPL win since beating Hibernian on December 27.

"We have been playing like this for most of the season," the 33-year-old Spaniard said. "It's all about getting breaks."
