Football: Robson will fight for his place

BARRY ROBSON insists he has no fears about losing his place in the Celtic side under a new manager.

Hoops midfielder Robson is looking forward to working with Gordon Strachan's successor and is encouraged by the calibre of candidates who have been linked with the role.

But Scotland star Robson, who Strachan signed from Dundee United in January last year, believes Celtic's players have their destinies in their own hands.

He said: "What happens if Gordon Strachan brought me here and I didn't do the business? He's not going to play you. If the new manager comes in and you don't do the business, he's not going to play you."

Despite winning the league title in each of his first three seasons in charge, Strachan has been criticised for leaving the Hoops squad in a poor state following his decision to stand down after surrendering the championship to Rangers.

Robson, 30, does not understand this perspective, saying: "Work needs to be done to the squad every year. That's something that needs to be done at every football club anywhere in the world. What I'm saying is the nucleus of this squad is good and young and fit and fresh, and we've got a great chance of lifting the title next season."
