Football news in brief: Terry Butcher keen to hook Aaron Doran again
INVERNESS manager Terry Butcher will attempt to re-sign Blackburn winger Aaron Doran next season. Doran took his tally to three goals from eight starts since signing on loan in January with a glorious strike in the 3-0 victory over St Johnstone on Monday.
Doran, 19, is under contract at Rovers next season, but Butcher said: "I would like to get him back because he is a great, bubbly character, a funny boy, but a good player as well."
Houllier well enough to leave hospital
ASTON Villa manager Gerard Houllier is likely to be discharged from hospital in the next 'three to four days' following his admission last week after complaining of chest pains. The Frenchman also expressed gratitude for messages of support he has received from Villa fans and friends far and wide. "I am extremely touched by all the messages I have received," he said.
City aim to deal with sick chants
MANCHESTER City will hold a series of behind-the-scenes meetings to determine an appropriate response to Monday night's repeated chants referring to the 1958 Munich air disaster by their supporters at Blackburn. City's hierarchy have resisted the temptation to issue a knee-jerk response, instead adopting a measured approach to a particularly tricky problem.
Serie A fine Lazio for fans' racist slogans
LAZIO have been fined 8,000 euros by Serie A after their fans were heard chanting a racist slogan during Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Inter Milan.
The Rome side, whose supporters have gained a reputation in the past for far-right wing political views, are fourth and, with four games to go, occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.
Coach sacked after hitting TV reporter
DANISH football club Randers have sacked coach Ove Christensen a day after he angrily hit a TV interviewer on the shoulder following a 4-0 loss to Brondby.
Christensen became agitated when asked immediately after the match about whether he could continue as coach and responded by saying he would not answer "stupid questions." He then hit reporter Rasmus Lund on the right shoulder and walked away.
