Whitburn boss Lee urges side to build on their magnificent seven

Whitburn have had a good start to the season and manager Robert Lee admits the experience his players gained last term has proved crucial.

The South Division outfit have won both their league games so far, scoring seven goals and claiming two clean sheets.

The club have been in free fall over recent years, but it appears that Lee has steadied the ship.

“It’s basically the same squad with only a couple of minor tweaks,” said Lee ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Pumpherston. “The thing is the players now have experience in this division and know what to expect. Last year, we started poorly but picked up mid-season only to fade away towards the end. This time the players are more aware of what is needed and we are playing well.

“I’m delighted to score seven goals without Brian King, who finished last season as our top scorer. When he gets back fit, I feel we can really kick on.

“There’s a huge incentive this season for any club who have ambitions [there are four promotion spots available] and this club is looking to get back to where they feel they belong.

“There’s still a lot of hard work to be done, but the players are doing their bit. So far so good, but leagues aren’t won in September. I’m happy with the progress and so far we’re on track for promotion.”

Elsewhere tomorrow, Livingston and Tranent, meet at Station Park, while high-scoring Haddington face Edinburgh United at Millfield.
