The Anorak: Keep faith with effective Spain in Euro 2012

THIS column, at the start of the Euros, suggested that the 3-1 Corals were offering on holders Spain could look ridiculous and that has proved to be the case as most firms are now offering around 1-2. So why do I not feel completely satisfied? I feel the best team of the tournament – Germany – crashed out at the hands of Italy.

Cesare Prandelli has placed his faith in Mario Balotelli and the form of the Manchester City forward is perhaps why they and not the Germans are in the final.

As for my thought on the final itself – Spain have been effective rather than sublime, but you always feel they aren’t going at full pelt, always saving a bit for the biggest stage, and at 10-11 they still look a fair bet to break Italian hearts, The recommended bets are 10-11 Spain (90 Minutes); Pirlo to win player of the tournament at 7-4 (Hills); bookings over 55 at 7-4 (Hills); and evens on both or one team doesn’t score (Ladbrokes).
