Strollers begin managerial search after McAleavy exit

Chic McALEAVY has been sacked as manager of Civil Service Strollers.

The East of Scotland League Premier Division club took the decision following their 6-2 defeat from Stirling University at the weekend and a subsequent meeting on Tuesday evening.

“After our game at Stirling on Saturday the club’s representatives, Tom Brown and Keith Stewart, asked for a meeting with me on Tuesday night,” said McAleavy. “I attended the meeting and they said to me ‘It’s not happening’.

“I said that we were
currently in fourth position in the league and were the best of the rest behind Stirling University, Spartans and Whitehill Welfare. They then said they did not think that I had enough time and I replied that I had not missed one single training
session or game all season since I took over.

“I told them that I was not resigning, so the bottom line is that they sacked me.”

The Strollers have lost four of their last five Premier Division games, conceding 15 goals and scoring seven, and, although they sit fourth, several teams below them are closing in with games in hand.

Strollers secretary Keith
Stewart said: “We got into a
situation where we did not think that there were enough players available and there was also a lack of communication.

“We were happy to go with the current set-up until the end of the season, but at the meeting on Tuesday we decided it was the termination of a verbal agreement.”

Strollers are now accepting applications for the post of manager/coach and these should be submitted to
Stewart, by e-mail, at keith
lstewart2000@yahoo.co.uk.

Early contenders for the job are likely to include former Spartans manager Sam Lynch, while Stevie Myatt, the
ex-Preston Athletic boss, is also seeking new challenges.
