Stirling students maintain perfect run at Lothian
Stirling University maintained their 100 per cent record in the Central Taxis Premier Division with a narrow 1-0 win away to Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale courtesy of an early strike by Liam Corr.
Most of the action elsewhere was in the first round of the SFA South Region Challenge Cup where Edinburgh City beat Burntisland Shipyard 5-0 thanks to goals by Dougie Gair, Andy Howat, Miles Hunter, Joe Dingwall and Grant Vanson.
Whitehill Welfare won 5-2 against Tynecastle with Stevie Manson (two), Wayne McIntosh, Andrew Kidd and Scott McCulloch on the scoresheet. Jamie Butler and Jamie Speed replied for Tynecastle.
Craigroyston beat Civil Service Strollers 3-1 with goals by Errol Douglas (two) and Chris Gordon, while Ross Aitchison netted for the Strollers.
Vale of Leithen progressed with a 3-2 win against Ormiston with strikes by Scott Devlin (two) and Scott Moffat. Richard Weir and Sean Miller were on the mark for Ormiston.
Spartans beat Preston Athletic 3-1, Edinburgh University won 2-0 at Duns, Leith Athletic triumphed 3-0 against Peebles Rovers and Gala Fairydean beat Heriot Watt University 3-1.
