Steve Lomas wary of Leigh Griffiths ahead of clash

ST JOHNSTONE manager Steve Lomas is wary of Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths for tonight’s meeting between the sides at Easter Road.

Lomas has lamented a lack of cutting edge in his own side this season but is aware that Griffiths, 22, knows his way to goal with 15 for the season so far.

Lomas said: “Hibs have shown a big improvement from last season, when defensively they were poor, especially from free kicks and corners.

“They have some decent players and Griffiths up front. He is a goalscorer, a dogged and determined attacker and when a player like him is playing for you, you always have a chance.”

Saints loan signings Mehdi Abeid, 20, and 19-year-old Gwion Edwards, from Newcastle and Swansea respectively, both came off the bench last week and Lomas added: “We got them in to increase competition and to compete for places in the team and a move to the SPL is good for them as well.”
