Stanton, Handling and Smith to get match time for U-20s

Hibs UNDER-20s, coached by James McDonaugh, the head of academy coaching at Easter Road, continue their build-up to the new season when they travel to face East Seniors
Central Taxis First Division club Selkirk at Yarrow Park
tonight, kick off 6.30pm, writes KEITH ANDERSON.

The Under-20s, who lifted
the Foyle Cup in Ireland ten days ago after beating
Ballymena United 1-0 in the
final, also beat a young East Fife side 8-1 last midweek.

“It was a great achievement in Ireland in what was a really competitive tournament,” said McDonaugh. “Things came even more together against East Fife and tonight we face Selkirk, who we are always privileged to meet. It was from Selkirk that Bobby Johnstone of the Hibs Famous Five came and it is great to continue to keep the bond between the two clubs.

“The game gives me a chance to give Sam Stanton, Danny Handling and Scott Smith some match time. We will also have Harry Monaghan, Jordon Forster and Dean Horribine in the squad to give as many
players as possible a game.

“This will all help towards their match fitness and we are all looking forward to the game as we prepare for the new
season.”

The Selkirk manager, Mike McKinnon, hopes to introduce some new signings.

Elsewhere, Spartans travel to face Newtongrange Star at New Victoria Park, kick off 7.30pm, Duns visit Dunbar United (7.15pm) and Vale of Leithen make the journey to meet Pumpherston (7.00pm).
