Stack: Hibs have to stay grounded

Graham Stack

Graham Stack has warned his Easter Road team-mates to stay grounded, insisting they’ve done nothing but “stem the flow” with their performances from Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

Hibs emerged from those clashes having achieved back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season, the victory over Killie taking them into the last eight of the William Hill Scottish Cup and the draw with Aberdeen keeping them just ahead of Dunfermline in the battle to avoid the drop.

But while agreeing confidence among boss Pat Fenlon’s squad has understandably risen, the Hibees goalkeeper cautioned against believing the club’s season has suddenly taken a turn for the better.

He said: “It’s still early days, we do not want to get carried away. There’s still a lot of work to be done. We are delighted with the last two weeks, we’ve stemmed the flow a little bit, unbeaten and with back-to-back clean sheets which is a good thing.

“We have to stay grounded, there is work to be done and a lot of football to be played but let’s hope we are on our way to turning the corner.”

Stack’s shut-out against the Dons was only Hibs’ sixth of the season, a total he readily agrees has fallen far short of the target he had set before the campaign began but now he’s aiming for a hat-trick of clean sheets in Sunday’s match against SPL leaders Celtic.

It may seem a tall order given Neil Lennon’s side have won their last 17 matches in domestic competition, a record which has made them favourites to win the treble, but Hibs go into the game at the weekend knowing they were the last Scottish side to take a point from the Hoops. Stack told Hibs TV: “Clean sheets work wonders. When a striker is scoring goals that drives them on. It’s the same for myself and the unit at the back. Clean sheets are what we work towards during the week.

“We’ve not kept enough this season, that goes without saying: Everyone has targets before the start of the season and I have fallen well short, nowhere near enough clean sheets. But there are still plenty of games to be played and I’d like to think I can catch up on a few.”

With admirable consistency I will re-state that I support every club against the OF (or will that be the NewF now) and that includes Hibs. I hope they win 20-0. They won't though, they will be well beaten.

Wee Jibber ....this is a Hibs thread. There is no place for tormented souls only interested in seeking comfort from their Hearts induced torment.. Beat AYR at home and its a Hampden semi. When was the last time Hibs were in the semis & how did they do?

JAMIE....... difference between running into your opponent & getting a fortuitous pen & throwing yourself to the ground when you get in the box. Hbs fans are embarassed by GOC and seem to seek comfort from accusing HEARTS players. We have our offendes at times but no one in Scottish football is as guilty as GOC .TV angle for SUSO incident looked as if he ran into him. I was not far away at the game and it appeared more a case of maybury diving in.......either way no attempt by SUSO to cheat.

well I hope all you Hearts guys who go on about GoC note that your forwards are quite ok with the structured foul by the Hearts player after he had delivered his pass. At least GoC had put the ball in a position where if he had not been blocked had a chance of reaching it.

Do wee Yak & Jibber HFC do seperate 'shifts' to police the Hibs threads? Think I might have caught a shift change over so I'll take my chance. My money is going on Hiibs to beat Celtic on Sunday.......Rangers points deduction and the ghostly atmosphere will take the edge of Celtics play and i reckon Hbs loanees will be out to impress Lennon. If the do get beat & the Pars draw I am however looking forward to The Scotsmans headline of 'RESURGENT HIBS GO BOTTOM'

I read with...well, let me be honest....considerable dismay....Craig Brown's assessment that Hibs could go unbeaten til season's end! Dismay, that is, only in terms of that he has not gone far enough and done us proper justice! We have turned the corner, and the surge upwards through the table will be the talk and admiration of football purists throughout the land. Pubs will be full again, of patrons raising glasses in recognition of a turn-around of fortunes, previously deemed unattainable; a feat thought only to be achievable by those of a magical disposition and dubious financial connections and strange handshakes....A clinical annihilation of Celtic on Sunday should set the process in motion......with another clean sheet, that is. If not, I'm changing allegiance....to Livingstone..:)

53 G'day MrHibs...'If we go bottom..'.....Put your fears to one side, Sir. I feel an upset is on the cards; Hibs have brought in players with skill enough NOT to be overawed by the prospect of playing those from "..in the Land of Mordor, Where the Shadows Lie", and I think Lennon will be at a loss as how to deal with a team that might previously have been dubbed a "soft touch". A few heid-stoats exchanged between Broonie and McPake, and Stokes always a menace, but other than that..nah, mate. Top six in no time, mark me words...:)

53* At least you won't have to face Kevin Kyle in the derby. That should keep the score down. 10 in a row coming up is it? To be honest, I've lost count.
