Scottish player ratings for Scotland v Czech Republic

Craig Levein got off to a winning start at Hampden with a 1 - 0 win over the Czech Republic. But how did each member of the squad perform?

CRAIG GORDON 8/10

Pulled off an excellent save when Sverkos was though one on one in after 23 minutes and had to be alert to palm another effort over from the same player in the second half. Good concentration and lively off line when necessary.

ALAN HUTTON 6

Lost his man at the back post midway through the first half but escaped punishment. Steady display and ever-willing to get forward but not up to previous lofty performances in the blue.

GARY CALDWELL 7

Vocal in organising the defence but allowed the Czechs to threaten in the opening period when he was beaten in the air from a free-kick. Settled as the game went on.

ANDY WEBSTER 6

Didn't do much wrong but as part of a new central defensive partnership, he and Caldwell struggled with the movement of the Czech strikers early on. Replaced at half-time.

LEE WALLACE 6

Did well and provided a fine cross for Brown's goal. Allowed a few crosses to get into the box early in the second half but offered an option going forward.

BARRY ROBSON 8

Very industrious and busied himself tracking back and in attempting to get up in support of Kenny Miller. Whipped in some fine crosses and set up the goal.

SCOTT BROWN 7

As part of the central midfield trio he found it tough to dominate the opposition. A willing combatant, though. Great run and finish for the match-winning goal.

DARREN FLETCHER 7

Loose pass midway through the first half almost handed the Czechs an opener. Whipped in great ball from the byeline in for Kris Boyd to meet at back post.

KEVIN THOMSON 6

Tried to nullify the Czech threat in a packed midfield but lacked penetration with his passing and couldn't really make an impact. Replaced at the interval.

GRAHAM DORRANS 7

Cleared off the line in the 30th minute to keep the score blank. Played with invention. Picked out Wallace with fine crossfield pass in build-up to goal.

KENNY MILLER 6

Decent positioning and opportunity from a Robson cross ten minutes before half-time but couldn't quite get the jump on the visiting defenders. Once again playing as the lone striker, he struggled with limited service.

SUBSTITUTES

PAUL HARTLEY 7

On for Thomson 46 mins. Proved an able buffer between midfield and defence and freed Brown up to get into more advanced positions.

CHRISTOPHE BERRA 6

On for Webster 46 mins. Part of a defence that grew in confidence the longer match progressed.

KRIS BOYD 6

On for Miller 63 mins. A Fletcher cross almost saw him convert at the back post before a Czech defender had to block his effort with ten minutes remaining.

CHARLIE ADAM 5

On for Robson 69 mins. Unable to get too involved in the action wide on the right but was more dangerous when he cut inside.

STEVEN WHITTAKER 5

On for Fletcher 83 mins. Denied his first international goal by a fine save from the Czech keeper in the dying moments.
