Scottish Cup: Clinical Edinburgh City secure trip to Montrose

THE line-up for the 16 ties in the second round of the William Hill Scottish Cup is now complete after Buckie Thistle, Edinburgh City and Huntly won their replays at the weekend.

Buckie beat Rothes 4-0, thanks largely to Zander Sutherland’s hat-trick, to set up a home tie against Third Division Annan, while Edinburgh City will travel to Montrose after beating Shotts 4-1, with Huntly securing a trip to Inverurie Locos by winning 2-0 on their long trip to Wigtown & Bladnoch.

The first meeting between Rothes and Buckie had ended goalless, but the deadlock was broken midway through the first half when home goalkeeper Greg Sim helped push a Lewis MacKinnon cross into his own net. Sutherland then netted after good build up play from Shawn Scott before converting a penalty after being brought down. Sutherland completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark.

Edinburgh City’s Ross Guthrie scored after 11 minutes at Meadowbank Stadium, with Ruaraidh Scott, Dougie Gair and Andy Howat all netting in the second half before Antonio Jaconelli netted a late penalty for Shotts.

Huntly will make a much shorter journey to Inverurie in the next round after a round trip of over 550 miles to Wigtown & Bladnoch. Barry Somers, who had scored twice to earn their replay last weekend, scored after just seven minutes of this one, with Polish striker Andrej-Slawomir Kleckowski completing the win in the second half.
