Scottish Communities League Cup: Rangers fans call for boycott of away game
A Rangers fans' group is calling for a boycott of any away games against SPL opposition
A group of Rangers fans is calling on supporters to boycott an away game if the opposition are an SPL club, ahead of this afternoon’s Scottish Communities League Cup draw.
The fans’ group, under the name of the Unified Supporters Platform, is calling for a boycott on any League Cup opposition who are in the SPL.
In a statement, posted on a number of Rangers fan forums online, the group hits out at what it calls the SPL clubs’ “hate-filled stance”, against them and calls for the withdrawal of any financial input for any SPL opposition.
The statement says: “The Unified Supporters Platform calls on the Rangers support to withdraw its financial input to any SPL club by boycotting the next round of the League Cup, drawn on 4th October, should our opposition be ANY Scottish Premier League club away from home.
“Since the turn of the year, Rangers FC and its supporters have been abused, maligned, derided and disrespected by the supporters and certain hierarchy of SPL member clubs. These cowardly clubs, who decided Rangers were not needed in the SPL, attempted to destroy us when we had reached our lowest ebb.”
“By boycotting this potential fixture the message the support sends out is loud and clear; their hate-filled stance against our club and its support will never be forgotten.”
The Scottish Communities League Cup is scheduled to be made at Hampden today at 2pm.
