Scots write programme for the Luxembourg FA
Scotland’s friendly encounter with Luxembourg at the Stade Josy Barthel Stadium tonight will be marked by an official match programme from the Luxembourg FA, although it has been written and published by two Tartan Army members.
Dumbarton programme editor Graeme Robertson and Junior football fan Graeme McGinty approached Scotland’s hosts to see if they would like a match programme when the friendly was announced and they got the green light, even though Luxembourg do not normally produce match magazines.
Robertson said: “We e-mailed our request several weeks ago and got the go-ahead to mark the game with a programme as well as the endorsement of the Luxembourg FA to call it the official one. We have produced a 16-page programme that we will be selling outside the ground and it will include comment from the Luxembourg FA’s president, Philipp Paul, and their head coach, Luc Holtz.”
Robertson added: “They supplied their comments in English and we have translated it into French and will run the two versions side by side, so we hope that we have done it accurately.”
Keeping up with the changes to Scotland’s personnel has been an issue. Robertson added: “We have been able to include details of Billy Stark being in temporary charge, but there was no way we could keep up with the squad changes.”
The duo’s efforts are in a good cause as the profit from the sale of the 350 programmes will go to the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal. “The programmes will sell out either being bought by the fans at the game or snapped up on e-Bay,” said Robertson.
