SCOTLAND women’s coach Anna Signeul believes Arsenal’s Champions League demolition of Barcelona has given her players a boost ahead of the Euro 2013 play-off against Spain.
Scotland players Jennifer Beattie and Kim Little grabbed five of the seven goals as the Gunners followed up a 3-0 win in Barcelona with a 4-0 romp at home to reach the last 16. The Arsenal pair were named yesterday in Signeul’s squad of 18 for the double-header against Spain at Hampden a week on Saturday and Madrid on 24 October.
“These results have shown our players that if Arsenal can do it, we can as well,” the Swede pointed out.
There is also a place for striker Lisa Evans, who is now getting a regular start in the Turbine Potsdam side, who play Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
Squad: Goalkeepers: Fay (Celtic), Lynn (Hibs). Defenders: Brown (Hibs), Corsie, Fernon (both Glasgow City), Jones (Celtic), McSorley, Mitchell (both Glasgow City), Small (Forfar). Midfielders: Lauder (Aland Utd), Little (Arsenal), Love, L Ross (both Glasgow City), Sneddon (Celtic). Forwards: Beattie (Arsenal), Evans (Turbine Potsdam), Grant (Celtic), J Ross (Glasgow City).
